Spring Outfit (6) – Like an American

Happy May First everyone! Reader featherfactor challenged me to create an “All American” outfit with my RG Birkin. I came up with this ensemble because the essence of American style means for me a balance between timeless and modern, something relaxed, easy-to-wear, but in the meantime very urban chic.
The mix of red, blue and white echoes the color of the American flag, it seems to make this outfit more “American”. lol~~ But the suede rope belt and the long necklace are, on the contrary, more me. They bring a bit of personal character to the whole look. ;-P Hope you like it, dear Katherine!

Shirt, belt & necklace: COS, jeans: Levi’s, shoes: Converse, bag: Hermès.

I really gravitate towards the details of the rope belt and the necklace :)

Saw your words … I like that “part of you” ( rope belt & necklace ) more than the rest of the outfit… the jeans are also cool with the inside trim and ripped details… :)

shaonian, COS is a gem~~ It is like a mix of Jil Sander and Marni plus a range of classic clothes with a minimalist Nordic twist. Decent craftsmanship and good quality materials (they mainly use natural fibers like 100% silk, wool, cotton or cashmere) really make COS stand out on the high street and make me a huge fan. :-D

cest, you are right, Spring is such a fun time for cheerful colors. :-)

Haha, there is probably nothing more americana than blue jeans and converse. :) You may get very inspired by flipping through Ralph Lauren’s catalogs. :) I think a nautical striped t or sweater, kahki pants could be another option as well.

Oh dear! this look is gorgeous! so fresh and beautifully balanced by Mlle. Garrance! I’d love to see it with wedge clogs for a more European look! have you seen the new scarves?

  14. Posted May 4, 2011 at 10:54 am | Permalink

streetwithnoname, I was thinking the same. That why I specially picked a pair of blue jeans from Levi’s for this outfit coz like Converse, Levi’s is an American company, which seems to suit the challenge even more, lol~~ Thanks for the advice.

Birkinmary, thank you my dear. I am with you, wedge clogs will surely add more chic European flair to this casual outfit. :-)

Ah~~~ the new scarves, just when I thought I’ve already had every CW I need, H introduced such an amazing FW collection. So many gorgeous designs and these colors, I think I really need some time to figure out which one or two I truly want. lol… So far I am in love with the Graff Hermès and the Magic Kelly. What are your favorites?

Love the combination of white contrast stitch on the Bag and the red line on the white shoes. Perfect Match.

I knew you would like Graff!!! hahahahahaha!!!! Unfortunately they are not much my cup of tea as I like more classic designs or at least more Hermes-ish ones! Anyway, I like Ex-Libris in Kimonos and some of the reissues (I’m still waiting for the pics of Groenland), the reissue of Cuirs du Desert in GM sounds also interesting…:=)

Really like this outfit. Simple, relaxed yet chic, also very detail-oriented. Well done!

Birkinmary, you got me, rofl~~~~ Yeah, I have a weak spot for modern abstract print. I love the idea of Graff and the way the color pops when knotted, but not that impressed by the unfolded look of this design. I am more keen to the Magic Kelly, especially the purple CW coz I just placed a Kelly order in Iris. It would be a dream match, don’t you agree? hahahaha~~~

Ex-Libris in kimonos is very interesting, hope to see it in store soon! Maybe I’ll fall in love too, we’ll see. ;-P

bellring, thanks dear. Just saw your look with ripped jeans, love love the casual chic allure. <3

I got my first Kelly last Christmas (I had always been a Birkin girl) and I wear her practically every day, which size did you order? Did you consider buying a canvas strap to wear her more casually? Mine is 35 in Rubis and looks great with the broad strap!
The new version of ExLibris features perfectly the essence of kimonos, that’s why I love it. Magic Kelly in purple sounds gorgeous, Rybalchenko scarves are always magic, I’d love the next chapter of his Quand Soudain! after all. it said it would continue… have a nice trip to Paris and come back soon. Love.

Birkinmary, the size, oh my dear (now you’ve hit a hot button with me on this topic, lol).

When I placed the order, my SA suggested a size 28 coz I just placed another SO in size 32, she said it would be more interesting to have two different sizes and the 28 is so cute. I agreed but am not sure whether it is too small. Unfortunately they only have a 32 Kelly in store which she could show me and let me try on, 32 is a great size. I have no idea how 28 or 35 look on me. Since we are going to Paris next week, she advised me to try FSH, so that I can at least have a feeling about 28 or 35. If I like the 32 or 35 more, I can still change the order coz the Podium is next month. So I hope I can make the final decision when we are back from Paris.

Your 35 Rubis with canvas strap sounds fantastic. I like the canvas strap too, it gives the classic bag a casual spin. Do you wear it cross the body or just as a shoulder bag?

BTW, Rybalchenko is one of my favorite Carré designers. His attention to details is so charming! Thank you for the wishes, have a wonderful Sunday! :-)

Oh dear! this is a big decision! 28 is great for a sellier either in a bright color or in exotic, I tried a kiwi one the other day and she was the cutest thing!!!!! Iris could be considered a bright color, couldn’t it? Is your Iris sellier or retourne? which leather? Another strong point to go for the 28 is that you can wear her open (Birkin style).
I had ordered a 32 Mykonos and then the 35 Rubis came across… you perfectly know how these things are! My SA called me, I couldn’t resist myself and went for her. I wear the canvas strap mostly as a shoulder bag, I use her crossbody now and then but I look like a postman!!!! hahahaha 35 is too big for a structured bag to be worn crossbody.
Trying all the sizes in FSH is the best you can do to be sure… a cute tiny rigid crossbody or a lovely relaxed shoulder bag? hahahahaha I can’t wait to know the verdict!!!!

Most favorite Rybalchenko scarf ever? Mine is Racconte Moi le Cheval.
    Love. BkM

My dear Birkinmary, thank you so so much for your advices and suggestions. Really appreciate it. <3

Now the update haha: I tried all three sizes at FSH, both DH and I thought 32 suits me best. 28 is so lovely but seems a bit small, 35 has such a great casual and effortless feeling but kind of big on me when wearing cross body. So I had my heart set on a 32 togo retourne (suits my casual life style better).

Just when I am about to inform my SA to change my 28 order, the right bag found me: a gorgeous 28 Iris! She’s retourne but beautifully structured which has a rigid touch. And the funny thing is, this time when I tried her on, both DH and I think she is perfect, not that small at all. LOL~~ So now you already know the rest of the story. ;-P

Most favorite Rybalchenko scarf? It’s probably “Cheval Surprise”. But I adore the poetic and peaceful details of “Marche Flottant du Lac Inle” too, it’s really more than just a scarf.
