S/S Inspiration: What’s White Now

I’ve been always fascinated by the magic of the white shirt, not because it is a cult fashion classic, but how a simple piece of white cloth could appear so unique, so powerful and so effortless chic.

I have couple of lovely pieces in my closet but for the coming Spring/Summer season, I’m hoping to find more interesting white shirts. Just can’t get enough of them. ;-)

Carré Story – Nuées Imaginaires

For the Spring/Summer 2011 carré collection, I have my eyes set on three designs: Fleurs d’Indiennes, Brides de Gala en Finesse and Nuées Imaginaires.

Being a lover of flowers, it’s a shame that I don’t have a carré in this theme. ;-) So I was really curious when I first heard of the Fleurs d’Indiennes. The design is quite interesting, but unfortunately the pattern itself seems a little bit busy for my taste.

Brides de Gala en Finesse is a remake of the classic Brides de Gala (design by Hugo Grygkar in 1956). I adore the colors and the idea of making a negative of the classic design. I am also fond of the charming and dedicate lines of the new version. The only problem is that it doesn’t impress me that much when knotted. Since I am not that kind of gal who collects carrés for admiration, I have to wear and enjoy them on a daily basis, so this is not the right one for me.

“Fragile vessels of the imagination, clouds trace our dreams. The world of this carré originates in a shifting and lighthearted nebulousness. Flowers and leaves multiply, traced by a sure hand and guided by a childlike spirit. Sheltered by them in their meanderings, or proudly astride their woolly profiles, all sorts of incredible animals find refuge there. Four-footed birds, flying fish, winged goats, equine mermaids… From their breath surge fleecy little clouds who drink in their words, wide-eyed. These learn their future tasks from their mouths: to protect the earth from the sun, to create the rain which will irrigate the soil… or just to let themselves go, nudged by the wind.”

The story behind Nuées Imaginaires is fascinating. I love everything about this carré, the mood, the design, the contrast hem, the colorway (these pictures don’t do the justice, the color is so vivid in real life)… Most importantly, it looks gorgeous on person. I never thought of buying a black carré, but this one is just love at first encounter. Besides, it rounds out my little carré family perfectly. ;-D

Spring Fling

I adore the smell of purple hyacinths, it perfumes the air so naturally…

Teaming them with tulips in tender baby pink. It is still frosty cold outside, but I do feel Spring in the air, at least at home. ;-P

Winter Outfit (7): Rubis Belt in Action

Some readers of this blog would like to see an outfit paired with the reversible belt (the Rubis side), I finally managed to snap a picture on Sunday and hope it is not too late. ;-)

To be honest, I wasn’t really a fan of the color Rubis at the begining coz I prefer true red like Rouge Garance. However, after trying it in person, I changed my mind. Rubis is not a classic red, but a rich and interesting rasberry red with a fresh touch, especially in Epsom and Swift leather. It can light up a neutral ensemble easily, also goes amazingly well with earth tone, navy and even soft pink and pale sky blue.

Shirt dress: H&M, vest: Gebeana, necklace: COS, gloves: Roeckl, belt: Hermès, shoes: Marni.

S/S Inspiration: Dots | Stripes | Black | White

Spring is still not here, but according to the weather forecast, the temperature will climb to above zero tomorrow. Well, at least this is good news coz I am so tired of winter clothing.

Looking forward to wear lightweight coats, jackets and dresses. :-D BTW, I just love the styling of this editorial!

Fuchsia Lily

Ten days ago, there were two blossoms and two buds…
Today, four lilies in their full glory. Have a blooming week! ;-)

Tulips on Snow

The winter is back. I hate freezing wind and muddy street, but I adore the snow. It makes everything so pure and serene, even the most bold two tone tulips…

Happy weekend everyone! :-D

Winter Outfit (6): Belted Up

I promised some fellow blogger friends to post an outfit with the H reversible belt, so there you go my dears. :-) Isn’t the pop of purple a lovely surprise?

Top & skirt: COS, trench: Comptoir des Cotonniers, belt & scarf: Hermès, booties: ???, sorry, can’t remember the brand anymore (geez, I am getting old, lol).

The Smart & the Pretty

What accessories you can live without? In my case, earrings are not my must-haves (haven’t been wearing them for years). I know, shame on me because I got my ears pierced when I was nine. ;-P Instead I have a weakness for beautifully made belts.

The pretty vernice bow waist belt is something I had my eyes on since last year, I like the fact that it can wonderfully turn a plain outfit into something special, feminine but not girly.

Having made a resolution to buy more classics, I consider another smart reversible belt justified. ;-) It complements my other belts perfectly coz each of them is unique in its own way. The two reversible belts are in Iris (Swift)/Rubis (Epsom) and Gold (Togo)/Black (Box) while the Rafale is in Etoupe (Clémence). It’s nice to have three belts in five different colors and leather types, enough to mix & match with different outfits.

Why do Fashion Insiders dress so badly?

It has been raining non-stop since Friday, so we spent the whole weekend at home, watching movies, surfing the web and lazing around on the the couch… The movies are too cheap to mention, but I am glad that I came across an interesting article from Franca Sozzani at vogue.it. I really enjoyed reading it, so I’d like to share it with you today. :-)

The gist of the article is about this question: “Most of the people who work in fashion don’t dress well. They don’t know how to match things or wear things that fit them. Maybe a strategy to get photographed and interviewed?”

Here is the answer from Ms. Sozzani:

“I am glad someone noticed, although I think most people realize it in the end as well. I couldn’t agree more. When you go to the shows you get to see everyone, near the location of the shows you end up walking along side people in the industry, journalists, that are dressed so badly you feel ashamed to be seen with them.

Why? For pictures and interviews. To feel eccentric, to please the bloggers, the photographers that work for unknown magazines, too cheap to remember the name. Always publishing the worst. It’s part of the game.

Why does fashion have to be extravagant? Ridiculous? I don’t know. Do this people realize they look ridiculous? Absolutely not, because there is always someone who is ready to say that they are unique. They believe them? Of course they do.

What should we get from that? That people in fashion have bad taste? No, but that they want to be different without realizing that it’s not enough to dress differently for a few weeks during the year, it should be innate. If not it’s a masquerade.

All of this makes fashion look ridiculous, and it doesn’t add anything to it. Fashion is creativity, a game, a fun game. It should be spontaneous when applied to yourself. If not it’s like building a monster in the lab, we all know the story of Frankenstein. We know how it ends. At times it’s tragic because it makes you lose sight of who you are, it confuses you, you don’t know who you are anymore. You become your own caricature.

You are unable to tell the truth from fiction. Almost like a movie critic that sees lots of movies ending up thinking he is the protagonist of all of them. To me it’s a tragedy, fashion makes you live a lie, people help the lie, and you become the victim of it. They make fun of you and you don’t even realize. Humiliating. But it’s true. Fiction doesn’t help the situation.

If all of this is for a picture or an interview, it’s worth it according to most. They don’t have their own story and never will. They are meteorites that die fast. This is not fashion. These are walk-ons of fashion. There are minorities.”
