I love H&M, I want flowers, but…

…no Lanvin+H&M for me. While I was taking a shower this morning, our local radio was reporting the Lanvin+H&M collection LIVE. It aroused my curiosity and I kinda like the idea of “colour wrist band”, because you don’t need to wait in line for a long time like it used to be. So I decided spontaneously to pay a visit since H&M is just 3 minutes away from my work place. So, I was there at about 8:20, got an orange wrist band (it means my shopping time is from 8:40 to 8:55). Then I went to my office first, drank a coffee, had my daily croissant and then headed back to H&M. Waited only about 2 minutes before I was in.

Well, if the following report makes you feel uncomfortable, please please don’t be mad at me. I know there are a lot of people who love this collection and I really don’t want to be rude. It is just my personal review.

This is no doubt a Lanvin collection, with lots of Alber’s signature designs. However, the quality of most garments sucks. The only thing I found lovely is a purple ruffle dress which is made of 100% silk, it feels good in hand too (I decided not to buy in the end because I am sure I can get something better made and more beautiful for €149). Plenty of things are made of unpleasant polyester which I don’t like. The shoes look cheap, and the accessories, the pearls are actually very nice, but I am not a fan of those big plastic flowers. BTW, the tees, I am just wondering if they’ll survive after one wash because of the delicate embellishments.

I guess I am the only person in this world who walked into a store with everything on the rack but came out empty handed (people outside in queue looked at me with that “are you from another planet” expression on their face. lol). It’s probably just me being way too picky. If you found something nice, ignore my post and enjoy! ;-)

I loathe polyester. Eeeek. I think I should cancel my order then. I didn’t get anything that I truly wanted but thought what the heck, I managed to get thru to a rep so might as well get whatever that’s in my size.

BTW, I’m dying to get a red bib necklace and the pearl necklace. Couldn’t get either one here. Can you help me check if there are anymore?

From the photos I have found online, the fit of the most dresses did not look good at all. So many people was paying a lot of money for clothes with wrong sizes. I was too lazy to try to get anything myself, so your report is good news for me, haha.

birkingal, check your eMail, mission completed my dear. :-)

Elysium, you’ve made the smartest decision, haha.

You smart girl. Thank you so much for the review. you just voiced why I didn’t dare to put a single toe in a H&M today. I was thinking, ok I won’t take a day off to go to H&M while I don’t buy much at H&M usually as I prefer throwing more money and have something that lasts. So I guessed that I wouldn’t like this collection, and if I liked it, I would be too mad to see someone else with the same thing around (you know as the clothes look bold, no way to miss someone else with the same thing around. Oh they buy 2 for one ah ah ah. My biggest fear ever).

You just said that I saved my day. thanks for that

Probably the T-shirts would be the only thing that might be worth the price, since the original T-shirts from Lanvin have more or less similar quality and are much more expensive.

*muah* *muah* Thank you so much!! You’re my savior! I’ve canceled the rest of my order. I can’t imagine myself walking around in a poofy floral dress nor t-shirt with a face painted on it.

Thanks for your post. I actually used a “personal shopping service” to buy some items for me (since I live in Texas w/o H&M). Unfortunately, she didn’t get there early and everything was sold out. Apparently, she is looking for returns this week. I was extremely disappointed to say the least.

Your post made me feel better! I would still like the red/pink necklace and contemplating whether to try ebay. (I could have bought the real thing at Last Call Neimans for ~$400 on sale but thought I’ll have it next week for $40!) Do you think it would be wise to bid? Online, they look like the same “quality” as the original. Please share your thoughts!

I lost my interest after watching the promo video of Lanvin for HM a few weeks ago–the story line was tacky and the outfits were neither practical nor creative.

I like Alber Elbaz from seeing his interviews, but his charisma could only go that far.

Gaelle, lol, thanks for your input. I just adore your Parisian gals, always true to yourself and never be one of those slavish followers. And, I am glad that you haven’t taken a day off, great decision. ;-)

Elysium, that’s so true. Honestly I always think the original Tees from Lanvin are too overpriced, well, along with their glass pearl necklaces.

birkingal, you are very welcome, it’s my pleasure. You know, I had much fun and was very excited too! :-D

purseaddict, I am sorry to hear this, please don’t be upset. Maybe you won’t like the dresses once you’ve touched them.

As to the necklace, unfortunately I can’t tell you if it is similar to the original coz I’ve only seen the real Lanvin one online, not in real life. But I would like to suggest you not to bid on eBay. The H&M price for the necklace is fine, there is no need to pay more than that IMHO.

jibjab, I actually lost my interest as I saw that stupid video with Natasha Poly saying how amazing the collection is and blah blah but all clothes are pixelated out.

I have to admit that yesterday the live radio report made my knees weak. Curiosity killed the cat, my bad. ;-P

I had the same opinion like you – that’s why I didn’t even take a look at the collection IRL. The AD Campaign was great no doubt, but how would you make Haute Couture look amazing in massproduction? Thank you for sharing your honest report and opinion. We need more people out there who are proud to have their own opinion.

Concerning the Lanvin necklaces: I had both of them in my hands (the original Lanvin and the H&M) and they are pretty much the same with some minor design differences but the material is just the same.

With the original selling for 1.500 € (I saw it reduced at sale for 410 € last week) and the H&M for 40 Euros you can’t go wrong with the H&M one if you like the necklace itself.

Personally I have ordered 2 of the silk dresses online which I will pick up this afternoon (the purple one and the blue one). I saw these already IRL and the quality good – the rest of the collection (especially the fur jacket and the silk coat) were of minor quality and looked rather cheap. Also I think one has to be rather tall and slim to make the floral dresses look good….

Hi abc, thanks a lot for your input. I appreciate your review, especially the comparison of the original Lanvin necklace and the H&M one. Now I am really happy for my friend birkingal.:)

Enjoy your dresses in best health, great choice indeed!

I have picked up my parcel with the purple dress yesterday – though it fits me concering size I will send it back as the material is not nice at all. I don’t know what kind of silk they used but this is not silk as I usally know it. I am still waiting for the blue dress to arrive which felt like silk in the shop. As I stated before I think one has to be rather tall and very slim to wear the dresses – I am 1,65 m and less than 50 kg but the dress just looks odd on me…. my BF was laughing the entire evening and I really did not feel comfortable in the dress. The zip on the side makes a strange feeling at least for me. Such a pity that all the models always look so good on the photos!!!!!

  19. Posted December 1, 2010 at 3:13 pm | Permalink

Oh abc, I am really sorry to hear this. I guess we weren’t talking about the same purple dress? Did you get the one with one shoulder? The material of the purple dress I’ve mentioned in my post is actually quite nice, they have the same design in navy too. At least they feel like real silk.

I agree with you that the fit of some dresses is somehow awkward (after seeing people’s modelling pictures online). And I am sure it is a problem of the cloth because you have a perfect figure!

Yes, I got the purple one with one shoulder and the blue one with the ruffles on the side (still waiting for this one…). It looks just so nice on the photos but the material is very stiff and hard – somehow I dont believe its silk. Will send it back and I am sure someone else will be really happy about this :-))).

concerning the necklaces: this was really such a big surprise as I had both in my hands with a time span of maybe 15 minutes. I could not believe that the H&M one is really just the same!!!! But I knew I would never wear it so I did not buy at H&M.

  21. Posted December 1, 2010 at 6:43 pm | Permalink

Ahh I see. The fabric of the dress with one shoulder is very unpleasant, no wonder you’ve decided to return it. To be honest, I won’t buy it even at a half price. A very stiff dress with a weird cut, no no… ;-)

The purple dress I found nice is this one (click here), it appears blue online but I think I saw a purple version in store (maybe it is just the lighting, or my bad memory. Sorry for that). Hope you’ll be happy with the blue one. :-)

BTW, the necklace, I couldn’t believe that the Lanvin one is just the same. It’s insane to ask such a necklace for 1500 €! Crazy world, hmm….

it is indeed – I asked the SA if somebody actually paid this price as the piece I saw was reduced – she looked at me with a very strange look and said “of course, I know its crazy but its lanvin”….

btw: the dress you posted the link for is the second one I am waiting for from the H&M online store.

  25. Posted December 2, 2010 at 9:35 am | Permalink

Oh my, that’s why I cannot stand this kind of SAs. Yeah we all know it’s Lanvin, so what? ;-) The truth is there are enough brand victims who just buy something because it is from blah blah or it is in Vogue or worn by blah blah, you know. Well, I don’t want to be judgemental, but just make sure what I’ve bought worth spending the money on.

My Hermès SA even suggested me not to buy a fringed cashmere scarf which I was interested. She said the fringe is too fragile and the threads at corner are very easy to get pulled. So I passed in the end.

I love SAs who are not only passionate about what they are selling, but also are rational and down to earth.
