Finally we had a Sunday full of sunshine! :-) However, just when I was dreaming of spring, it surprised me again with a white garden this morning. Oh, how I wish I could wear something like this today?

Happy Chinese New Year
Yesterday was the start of the Chinese new year. I wish all my dear friends a happy, healthy and successful year of tiger! I hope all of us have the determination and bravery of the tiger in facing all the ups and downs in 2010. :-)

My mom used to give me new clothes from head to toe to kick off the new year while I was a child. Now I am not a little girl anymore and don’t follow this tradition every year, but I always wear something red to celebrate.

Winter Outfit (5): The Language of Clothes
Is what you wear a reflection of the mood you are in? Sometimes I feel less is more and want to go for something a little bit more edgy…

but I just can’t pretend to be cool. Coz all I want is to be true to myself…
Winter Outfit (4): Neutrals
I don’t have tons of neutrals in my wardrobe because, as you might have noticed, I love colors. ;-) But I always admire those who wear neutrals in an unexpected beautiful way.
It’s easy to match blacks, whites, beiges and grays, but how to make them more personal and interesting is not as simple as just putting them together, agree? Please feel free to share your thoughts and ideas~~

Pearls with Ribbon
I had a short trip to Munich three days ago. In order to make my train ride less boring, I took some glass pearls and ribbons with me and DIYed a new necklace (the bling bling part came from an old bracelet, how I wish I had more of these pretty little things). If you love the mix of pearls and ribbon but hate the price tag at Lanvin, why not just start DIYing now. :-D
We’ll fly to Paris next week, I hope to share with you some beautiful winter pictures of the city of light next time!

Winter Outfit (3): Shades of Chocolate Brown
It finally stopped snowing, feeling great to be able to wear my beloved leather jacket again! :-) I am normally not into these star-turned-fashion designers, but hey, this one by Sienna Miller is simply a dream!

Winter Outfit (2): the soft Glow of the dusty Pink
Since it is impossible for me to wear purple from head to toe, I picked up something else from my wardrobe to go with the New Springs Carre. This is an outfit I’ll definitely wear, plus a gray wool coat when going out of course. :-)

Winter Outfit (1): In the Mood for Purple
I never really liked matchy-matchy looks, but want to play with different shades of purple this time. Dark violet wool coat layered over a gray degrade wool dress, team them with light purple booties and the New Springs scarf.
What do you think? Will you wear something tone on tone like this? I’ll probably change these shoes. ;-)

Light up Black & White
The discussion with jibjab on how to make cutouts pieces look less loud makes me what to post this outfit I’ve almost forgotten. ;-) There are no cutcouts in this look, but the idea is quite the same. When there is a statement piece (the necklace here), I’d rather keep everything else simple.
BTW, If you are the type of person who prefer simple and modest clothes, bold accessories are always a good choice to add some visual interest.

Art on a Silk Square
Since a dear friend asked me why the Hermès scarf is so special. I would like to share something I know. The first Hermès scarf was produced in 1928, inspired by Napolean’s soldiers. It was a big success, Hermès later launched its first carré in 1937 at a factory in Lyon. This is the begin of a silk journey.
- each carré measures 90cm × 90cm, weighs 65 grams and is woven from the silk of 250 cocoons
- carrés are printed using multiple silk screens, one screen for each color
- 43 is the highest number of screens used
- 6 to 8 weeks are required to prepare for silk screens and colors
- the hems are all hand-stitched, it takes 30 to 45 minutes to finish one carré
- each design takes 9 to 12 months of research and development
- there are 50 carré designers, contributions also came from artists like H. Matisse and most recently J. Albers
- Hermès issues two carré collections each year. Half are new designs, half are re-colored classics

BTW, I store all my carrés in their orange boxes (wrapped in the original acid-free paper). Tagged their names and colors on the box so that I don’t need to open each box to find the right one. ;-)
